This is the last track weekend at NJMP for 2017!  TPM has Thunderbolt for both days and I already booked the Saturday and have garage 118.  Post up if you're interested in joining me!

Ok, I called today and switched it to garage 10 so we can all hang out together.  There should be plenty of room everyone since we have adjoining garages now.

Had some great weather for the last track day at Thunderbolt on Saturday.  Me, Terry and Don joined up with Eric (ECR), Jay and Alex in garages 10 & 11.  Jay brought his new KTM RC390 along with his S1000RR.  The little KTM is really cool - especially with the all the upgrades Jay has into it.  We skipped the first session waiting for the track to warm up a bit and after the first rotation of three bike groups and a car group we were set to go!  Being that the Sunday weather was looking so dismal I think most of the riders transferred over to Saturday so it turned out to be a pretty packed day. Lucas even surprised us and showed up on his KTM SM-T to spectate a bit and check out the whole track day deal.  Hopefully he will have a track bike lined up for next season.

The crowds didn't really bother us too much though, I focused on using the traffic to hone my passing skills and work on body position.  I didn't get enough clear track to really work hard on my lap times, but that was fine with me.  Terry seemed to really enjoy the day and worked on getting more comfortable on the GSXR.  Don was turning in his usual blazing lap times until he got a little close to another rider entering turn one, and while braking hard to avoid him he lost the front and low sided into the grass.  Luckily, Don is fine and even was able to ride his bike back to the garage.  It will need a little work before next year but nothing too bad.

There was a mock race set up for the end of the day that anyone could join in on and it turned out to be pretty packed.  Unfortunately, there was a wicked crash going into turn one right at the start which required two riders getting air lifted out.  Hopefully they are both ok.  After that they closed down the track for the rest of the day.  It sucked to end the season on a low note like that, but shit happens.  Anyway, that wraps up the season at NJMP!  We will be hitting the track hard again next year, so keep your eyes out for info and scheduling early next year!

Great write up John. It was a fantastic day except for the crashes.
Novice group had 40 riders in it and at least 10 of the were first timers.
I couldn't get any real fast laps but had a whole lot of fun passing people. It helped me to learn how to brake late into a corner and also accelerate hard out of one.
It's sucks that we have to wait until spring to get back out there.
Hopefully next year I can put together all that I have learned this year and get some decent lap times.
It's been so great having Don and you coaching and pushing me to get faster.
Next season will be even better.
